So, I am not the movie connoisseur in the family, but I did just see a movie today that BLEW my mind.

HARD CANDY, 2005--Directed by David Slade

It stars Ellen Page, who has recently blown up from her performance in Juno. It also has Sandra Oh (my Grey's Anatomy fav, btw there is a new GA ep tonight).

So, I don't even want to tell you all what it is about, so you can be surprised--but I must say it is rather dark and twisty. In short, a pedophile has the tables turned on him.

LOVED IT!

Here are some of my favorite recent celebrity looks:

Although her career has seemed to be stalled, Christina Milian looks supa dupa fly in this strapless dress. Dress pockets have been my obsession for the past few months. Her shoes are hot as well!

Kerry Washington has been consistently classy and fly on the red carpet.

I'm not in love with this look (could do without the hose) but this is a MAJOR step up for Serena, in my opinion. She always looks a little bit wrong...but I'm not mad at her here.

So again, I am not IN LOVE with this look but Katie has been looking SO STIFF and OLD lately. Although the velvet is not my fav...I think she looks young and fresh here.

So, LC and Heidi may disagree on their show, but they can agree on the need for great outerwear this season. I want Lauren's coat for my collection.

Cute and casual. Bee looks great in a simple white tee and jeans. The accessories are what do it and I LOVE the shoes.

Hated It!

Here are some of my least favorite red carpet looks:

The sixties A-line minis are all the rage this season, but this one is doing wayyy tooooo much! This dress reminds me of Boomerang when they are in the art class and the little girl describes her collage. (If you don't know what I'm talking about never mind...lol)

Kelly's Dante's Inferno inspired gown is TERRIBLE. She has a great body and can pull off so much but this is not cute!

Take my word for it when I say the rest of the gown was covered with bows and lace too. Unless she was going to an 80's themed prom (which she wasn't) Lucy was wrong for this one.

Now I feel bad for talking about Venus, because I actually really like her hair...and her jeans and a t-shirt fit cute. But overall, she still looks crusty. A nice pair of earrings and some makeup would have changed the whole look.

This is the second time J-Hud has graced my worst-dressed list. The gown itself is OK, but the shrug fits improperly and just doesn't look right, in my opinion.

OK, no Trina. The high waisted jean is definitely the thing, but those shoes are awful and her accessories are overdone. Most importantly, her $19.99, built-into-the-band, wig is horrible.

I don't even know what to say about this Sharon Stone ensemble. Leather, feathers and fur?

This was not a red carpet look, but still terrible enough to be discussed. WTF MJ?

I just thought this was hilarious. Its amazing how other cultures embrace our music and dances. A few weeks back I saw some young white kids doing the Soldier Boy at a hotel and was shocked. This video had me rolling on the floor. My man in the front is GETTING IT--with his perfect arabesques! Isn't crazy how hip hop can be such an international success but we still get called the "N" word on a regular basis?

Dancing with the Worst!

So, in case you didn't know, I love dancing!
Accordingly, my favorite shows are dance shows (i.e. all the SYTYCD posts).

This season's Dancing with the Stars has gotten me all excited. Although there are a lot of D listers and some no-listers at all, I was excited to see what the contestants could do.

My all around favorite is Cheetah Girl, Sabrina Bryan. She is the ish, and although she does have dance training, its mostly in hip hop which is such a far cry from the rigid style of ballroom dance. Race car driver, Helio Castroneves is one of the judges favorites, but I am usually harder on the guys in ballroom, because women usually do the more elaborate movements. I was also pleasantly surprised by Spice Girl, Mel B's performances thus far.

What left me absolutely speechless, were the performances of Floyd Mayweather! I feel bad for talking about him, because he obviously tried soo hard, but then I get over it because he talks soo much shit. He actually had the nerve to tell the judges he was robbed last week because his scores were so low. Did he not see the tape? I was appalled! He was soo serious and soo terrible at the same time. I realize that as an athelete, he does not have the stage presence that many actors and singers do, but still. He was scaring me. Compared to Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, and Laila Ali, he is making the athletes look bad. I would say he was better than Clyde the Glide from last year though. The judges said he improved this week from last week, but there was really no where for him to go but up.

SEX AND THE CITY, THE MOVIE HAS BEGUN FILMING!

I can not wait until this movie is released! It is scheduled to hit theaters in May of 2008.

It will star of course, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall, along with Jennifer Hudson, Jason Lewis, Evan Handler, and more. I am sooo glad they got over they're personal beefs so they could satisfy their many fans and get that money!

Red Carpet Fashion Donts

So I love Vanessa Williams, and think she is very classy, beautiful, and poised (except for that whole naked photo thing). I even see where she was going with this ensemble, but all the feathers (which are very in right now) were just wayy too much.

Debra Messing actually got rave reviews for this Ralph Lauren creation but I hated it. I think it looks very old school prom-ish.

Hayden Pantieri's (or however you spell it) dress is swallowing her! She is a petite 18 year old but this dress looks like it is for a pregnant WNBA player.

Now we all know Paula is a little bit crazy, but she went too far! The one titty out is never a good look (Lil Kim) even if it is bejeweled.

Swiss looks like a gangsta line cook and Eve's shoes are terrible. The dress itself is pretty whack (although metallic is in) I am just not feeling it.

LC from The Hills donned one of her own designs, and I give her props for trying. However, I thought the dress was unoriginal, shapeless, and kinda 70's grandma-ish.

OK, so T-Pain was a mess at the MTV awards. From the striped shirt, to the piping on the jacket, to the un-ironed under shirt, to the ...(its just all wrong!)

Ne-yo looks like a gay bandit!

Pharell and Pusha T just look real REGULAR here. I think my bf has that shirt, Pusha.

So I thought Kanye and his fiance Alexis, looked pretty whack on the red carpet. Although you cant see 'Ye's sneakers (which weren't cool like Robin Thicke's) you can see his tight ass jacket, different colored pants, skinny and crooked ass bow tie, and you know the white shades were not far away. Alexis looks OK and there is nothing really wrong with her dress. Her hair looks DRY though and that color is not a good look. On the whole, I give then a thumbs down.

J Hud looks Horrible! Did she steal some of the Dream girl's wardrobe and just tie on a belt? Aja, I know that's your girl, but she needs to get a stylist and some spanx quick.

So, as award's season is starting to roll around, we can expect some awesome fashion trends along with some style atrocities. Here are a few of my favs from the recent MTV and Emmys Awards.

Dos:

Rihanna looked fresh and young with this strapless, bright pink, fishtail dress. Love the hair and edgy highlights and nails.

Robin Thicke and his wife Paula Patton make a stylish team. I am loving Paula's 20's inspired dressed and Robin looks cool in his blazer, t-shirt and sneaks.
I like Cassie's overall look. The skinny jeans, bling and jeweled halter make a fly casual statement.

I am feeling 50's business casual look. Mike hates the shirt collar over the jacket, but I think he looks nice.

I am also feeling TI and Tiny's look as a couple. I would have worn a different purse, but all in all, TI looks dapper, and Tiny's dress, belt and shoes are cute.

Katherine Heigl at the 2007 Emmy's was stunning in this Zac Posen gown.

Kate Walsh from Grey's Anatomy looked fly in this form fitting gown. She is 40ish and her body looks great!.

I remember like it was yesterday, most of my high school class packed in Mr. Rutschman's room awaiting the verdict. Whites on one side and blacks on the other. Not Guilty! We (the blacks) cheered like we had won the lottery. Later that evening while talking to my former boss Dan (a jew), he was furious and could not believe there was an acquittal. Now Dan is not racist in the least, and actually could be termed a civil rights advocate. This was one thing he could not let go, and it had nothing to do with race. We would argue and argue and he would ask "How can you believe this man is innocent?" He would say that he could understand if I felt like the justice system had been so slanted against blacks, that the verdict was one time where blacks got over on the system. I didn't feel that way though, I argued until I was blue that the evidence did not show he was guilty, that he was being framed and he was truly innocent (this is my 17 year old pre-law school opinion).

So fast-forward ten years, this dude writes a book about how he would have killed them if he was the killer. Seriously?!!!! I was personally offended, not to mention sick to my stomach for the Brown and Goldman families. I cannot believe I supported this asshole. What else can you call someone who could be sooo callous? Not only are you a murderer who got away with murder, you want to profit off of the story of how you killed the mother of your children?

So OJ was arrested and is being held in Nevada for armed robbery. According to investigators, Simpson and several cohorts burst into a room at the Palace Station hotel Thursday evening and confiscated collectibles that Simpson claims were stolen from him (the items were being offered for sale by a dealer with whom Simpson has had prior business dealings). Simpson, who is facing six felony charges, is the second person arrested for the alleged memorabilia heist. Walter Alexander, a 46-year-old Arizona man, was nabbed last night on armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy raps. Two firearms were seized during search warrants executed following the arrest of Alexander, whose booking photo can be found here. The weapons, cops contend, were the ones used during the hotel heist. I hope he is sentenced to the max! Listen to the audio of the robbery.

So, it seems that celebrities just can't keep themselves out of trouble. It's one thing to have an addiction problem (which is hard to escape in the business) and quite another to be in an out of jail on petty crimes every other week. In the past, celebs would get charged for something major like murder, but now days its anything from hitting someone with a cell phone to driving the wrong direction on the freeway. Why can't they just act right? Is it that hard to do your drugs in the privacy of your own home, hire a driver, and refrain from assaulting people? As a multi-million dollar football star, do you have to bring your weed with you on the plane? I hate that the media feeds into this crap (although, I guess I am guilty of both writing and reading about it. =)). We didn't need more coverage of the Paris to prison situation than say Katrina or the Tsunami. Do these stars really think they are untouchable? I'm glad Paris had to do the time, as well as Lil Kim and Martha Stewart.

Next to go to the pokie is rapper Foxy Brown--who clearly needs anger management more than Naomi Campbell and Eminem combined. A year in prison should have her thinking twice about assaulting nail technicians and spitting on beauty supply workers. Please BET-no Countdown to Lock down Part II (can you believe that show was the Number 1 rated show on BET--WTF--BET steals formatting ideas from everyone and when they finally come up with their own-its some crap like that?'--although HELL DATE is hilarious!).

OK, back to the topic at hand, is there a difference in reasoning behind why black and white celebrities get into trouble? Do whites get into it because they think they can get away with anything? Do blacks feel the same way or have some not grown out of that hood mentality? Football players causing riots by making it rain, having dog fighting rings, and starting fights is just STUPID to me! Why risk your entire career on a weekend at the strip club? How can PacMan Jones be so cavalier about an incident that led to a man's paralysis? How hard is it to not involve yourself in illegal activity WHEN YOU MAKE MILLIONS?

Finally, Trick Daddy apparently was involved in an altercation at the strip club this past weekend and was arrested. The fight occurred in some strip club named Tootsie's Cabaret! He was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication. He is currently being held on $1,500 bond. Witnesses say Trick got knocked out during the fight and had to be taken away by ambulance.

The VMAs Atrocity!

So if you guys missed the VMAs last night--good for you! Unfortunately, it reminded me of the BET awards, in that it was disorganized, poorly planned, had bad performances, and a fight as well. What the H was up with the performances in the different parties? Different artist performed in various rooms of the Palms casino, with the actual show being held downstairs. I was sooo tired of seeing Kanye with that horrendous fit and awful white glasses. It looked like the Justin/Timbaland party was by far the most crunk--but they could have just performed on the main stage and left the outside activities alone.

First and foremost, let me address the opening "performance" (if you can call it that) with Brittany Spears. I was really routing for her to prove everyone wrong and make a great comeback, but it was more like a train wreck. She couldn't even lip sync with feeling and looked as though she was seriously under the influence of something. I actually like that song, but its like she forgot how to perform. The stage presence, dance technique and sex appeal that made her famous (because we all know it wasnt the voice) has disappeared! Mike's description was that she was moving in slow motion while everyone around her was at full speed. The audience shots are priceless-I've never seen that many bewildered faces at the end of a performance before!

Did anyone peep her slight stumble in the beginning and overall cluelessness throughout the song? She was originally going to perform a magic trick with the help of Chris Angel where she would appear through floating mirrors, but MTV cut it due to insurance reasons. Finally, what was up with her fit? I know Brit Brit isn't the classiest chick but COME ON! The entire thing was TERRIBLE. What are your thoughts?

I must also address the Tommy Lee/Kid Rock debacle. While Pamela Anderson was on stage, it was clear Tommy was heckling and making comments to which she responded, on air "Stop Tommy." He apparently continued to taunt Kid Rock throughout the show, and finally Kid couldn't take it anymore. He clocked him during the Alicia Keys performance and both were removed from the show. Here is what Jamie Fox and Diddy had to say about it. Is it wrong that I love how ninja-ish Jamie Fox acts at these shows?

Yeah!! .....here I am minding my own biz having a great time with my friend Criss Angel (magician) and watching the MTV awards in the front row saying hello to all my friends......Pamela comes and sits on my lap who I love and adore....and also say hello to my friend Travis Barker and his wife!.....and i get a text from another friend P. Diddy and he says come sit with me.....and he's sitting with Miss HOT Megan FOX so I go over and sit with P! Not a minute later and Alicia Keys starts her amazing performance....("I apologize sweetie.....I had nothing to do with the timing and disrespect")......back to the stupid-ness!!....so..... I get a tap on the shoulder from Kid Pebble...I stand up and embrace him with a semi hug and say "Hey dude...What up"?? He punches me in the face.....well if ya wanna call it that!?....more like a bitch slap!.......Wuss!! Anyway....i go to knock this jealous country bumpkin the f$%k OUT....and before I can have a meeting with my fist and his ugly ass mug ....security guards... grab me and haul my ass outta the award show! So I'm fine and of course leave to my room with police and owner of the Palm's George Maloof......the rest is paper work and bullshit!... Anyway...... I would like to apologize to Alicia and George and MTV for the disrespectful bullshit caused by a piece of shit called Kid Pebble!!

Love and Happiness

Does love equal happiness? Can genuine happiness exist in the absence of a loving, intimate relationship? If you have a loving, committed relationship, should that be enough? Do the constructs of society push us towards marriage or is it human nature? Is monogamy even a human/natural function or a religious ideal most tend to roll with?

Do I believe marriage is BS? Often times, yes. Behind closed doors, many happy couples are not what they seem.

Do I believe some marriages are blissful and the perfect match? Of course--you just have to meet my parents.

Why is it so hard for most marriages to work, then? Specifically black marriages? Our divorce rate is 20 percent higher than whites. Black men divorce black women, 10 percent more frequently than they divorce white women. Do we as black women really have attitude problems, emasculate our men, or push too hard? Do black men think that white and other is better than black? Do women put up with less than they did in past generations or have they stopped looking the other way?

I didn't mean to get this deep with it.

Marriage is not something to be forced because you are ready to take the "next step" or because everyone else around you is doing it and it may not be for everyone. I believe that marriage is truly hard work and both parties must respect and be down for each other. We need more strong black couples and strong black family units. There are so few examples of a stable family environment for many black children growing up.

Here is a couple that has gotten it right! Congratulations again to Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Ford.

Sean Combs held his annual White Party in the Hamptons this past weekend. There are so many other important issues in the world, but I had to address the looks of some of the attendees. First off, Janice Combs--WHY?? WHY?? WHY can't you ever get it right? Do you specifically search for the cheapest looking wigs you can find? Diddy never once suggested you go to a professional stylist and spend some dough on quality hair?

Lil' Kim? Why did you do that to your face? She was almost normal looking again when she got out of jail--like of the plastic surgery had settled in. This new batch is horrendous and I cant stand to look at her for ongoing periods of time. What is Ray-J thinking? He just bought this chick a Lambo! After his anatomy was displayed for all to see--you would think he could have "up"ed his game from Kim Kardashian but he goes from Whitney to this?

What are your thoughts on Mariah? Is it just me or does her dress look like it came from the 5 dollar clothing store? (Do y'all remember that store?)

Finally, my favorite look of the night.

Star has finally figured it out. Her head no longer looks too big for her body, she has stopped showing that disgusting chest scar, and her hair is current and flattering. Go Star and gay Al!

Jena 6 Update

Who are the Jena Six? A group of black students who are being charged with attempted murder for beating up a white student who was taunting them with racial slurs, and continued to support other white students who hung three nooses from the high school's "white tree" which sits in the front yard.

Hair Debate

So, an editor at Glamour Magazine recently stuck her foot in her mouth while giving a presentation on the dos and don’ts of ‘corporate fashion’ at a New York law firm a little over a week ago.

According to August issue of American Lawyer magazine:

First slide up: an African American woman sporting an Afro. A real no-no,
announced the ‘Glamour’ editor to the 40 or so lawyers in the room. As for dreadlocks: How truly dreadful! The style maven said it was ’shocking’ that some people still think it ‘appropriate’ to wear those hairstyles at the office. ‘No offense,’ she sniffed, but those ‘political’ hairstyles really have to go. What are your thoughts? I went to a HBCU and we had seminars suggesting that we go with "less ethnic" looks when interviewing in the corporate environment. Is it worse coming from a white woman? As long as your hair is well maintained and styled, should it matter if it is straight, natural, locked or a big fro? If we change our bohemian clothing for the work place, should we change our hairstyle as well?

There hasn't been this many ninjas at sea since that first boat ride over!

So, if you haven't heard about Festival Sea, it is an annual cruise for the African American population. An entire cruise ship is chartered and everything is geared towards our people. From the music played in the elevators, to the activities and even the performers...its all about black people.

Some of the performers were Morris Day and the Time, Rickey Smiley, and Joe.

Now a friend of mine, who is African American, happened to ask me why would I want to go on such a cruise. If you are wondering the same thing, then forget about it...you wouldn't understand.

We sailed out of Tampa and our first stop was Key West. I found the city to be an interesting mix of tourist, artsy, alternative, and military cultures. We went to the Truman Museum (because sometimes we are nerds) and learned a lot about the political history of the area.

Our next stop was Nassau, Bahamas and I was overwhelmed by the island's beauty (although I had been there before, I was too young to appreciate the beauty of the land and its people). We toured the Atlantis hotel and its many aquariums before heading to the beach. While there, we encountered a few rain storms which we would later learn would be the precursors of Hurricane Dean.

That night was the Hollywood formal, and it was wonderful to see all my people dressed to the nines. (of course I will only share a picture of myself but I'm sure you can imagine. =)) Every dinner on the cruise was at least 4 courses and my palate enjoyed every minute of it. I also had some great wines including a very nice Riesling and Merlot.

Wednesday we hit Ocho Rios, JA and I was ready to party. Each day, my drink diet consisted of at least 4 Rum Punches and I was ready to expand my menu. We took a shuttle to the Mahogany Beach and headed straight for the bar. I dined on Jerk Chicken and a Dirty Banana and was feeling great. As expected, within minutes I found a green connect and was all set with the herbal refreshments. I was weaseled into buying a straw bag and other souvenirs. We then headed to Soni Station, and really started to shop. There was a swap-meet area, and every vendor had GAME. They would hassle you to come look at their shop, tell you their story, fan you like you're a queen (which I am), and before you knew it you'd dropped $50 or more on knick knacks. I am the ultimate consumer so they must have known I was an easy target, but I did come away with some cool gifts, jewelry, and artwork. I pray for those people along with anyone affected by the hurricane.

That evening was the White Linen night. Unfortunately, the deck party had to be moved inside due to the storms but it still went down. After amazingly getting through dinner unsoiled, I partied at the Firebird Lounge. At midnight, Damon Williams gave a comedy show that was off the hook! Dude is hilarious and had me crying the entire time.

There are sooo many other details that I could discuss but nights are starting to run together in my mind. I would be remiss if I did not mention the Emergency 911 Costume Night and the fact that my parents won the Best Couple Award.

Other highlights on the boat include the African Night, where we surprised my parents with an anniversary dinner at the ship's Supper Club. Karaoke, African American Idol, line dancing (although I will stab myself if I hear the Cupid Shuffle one more time), Water Balloon Wars and the eating at the Sushi bar were also some very memorable activities.

Our last stop was Grand Cayman and the beach was breathtaking.

By this time, it was known that Hurricane Dean was headed to the area and even some of the locals were considering leaving. Our cruise ship left Friday night and headed back for the states. We outran the storm and the water was a little choppy at times. Although I am glad to be home, I had a wonderful time and would recommend the Festival At Sea experience to anyone who loves our culture (there were some others on the boat as well). There were no fights, major drama, or problems that many like to associate with large gatherings of black people. The camaraderie and energy among the passengers was touching and beautiful to witness. I will probably post a part II when I get the rest of my pics uploaded and can remember more details--certain stuff is foggy. I will say this (yes I am corny): Ain't no party like a black folks party, cause a black folks party don't stop!

Deadbeat Dads

So, my bf and I had a long discussion about the current drama between Eddie Murphy and Mel B. Eddie basically claims that she is a liar and a gold digger. Scary Spice has reported that they were deep in love, got each others tats, and planned the pregnancy. Eddie has said that she was cool and funny, but didn't know how to act (in that classless, British, hood sort of way) and was loud, obnoxious, and potty-mouthed. When she began to offend his mother and children, he had to bounce (allegedly). Eddie claims they never planned on having a kid and she told him she was on the pill.

Mike seems to think this makes Mel B shady, and that she trapped him to get paid. She also, allegedly had the labor induced so baby Murphy-Brown would have Eddie's same b-day. I say, it doesn't matter because NO ONE made him go raw dog. He is worth millions! His mama never told him not to trust these chicks? He never saw Boys in the Hood? "Pill ain't gone keep your D from falling off!" His bad! The pill is not 100 percent effective anyway, and he knew there was a possibility of his being the father. I felt he handled the situation very badly, and I feel bad for Angel Murphy-Brown. No matter what he feels about the mother, that child has nothing to do with it, and these cold statements and lack of contact will definitely affect the child in the long run.

With that said, how can these successful men think its OK to not support their children? Now I know in some cases, the mothers are gold diggers and are asking for extravagant settlements. But if you can put 500,000 around your neck, you should be able to put that each year on your baby!

I'm sorry to announce that I will officially be on vacay in 3 more days! My entire family and I will be cruising the carribean on the Festival At Sea (Carnival) cruise line. Two thousand black people on on boat headed for the Grand Caymens, Bahamas, and Jamaica! I can not wait! I will have to reinstitute my Bob Marley while on holiday although I must announce that I have been smoke free for several months now. No more NICOTINE!

On a side note, I have been on the "lemonade" diet for the past 4 days and I am litterally wilting! Four days of liquids while my boyfriend decides to be Chef Boy-R-fuckin-Asshole (yes I think I'm a little grumpy) and make every great smelling dish known to man is killing me! I think chitterlings might smell good to me at this point though, and you know I don't do those funky things. The one thing about fasting I have learned is that it makes you appreciate food. I mean really appreciate food! Like even a tic tac, oh how I would love a gummy bear right now. Beauty costs though, so I will stick it out for 3 more days until I get on that boat! Then I'm putting on my bikini, taking a million pics (some will be uploaded immediately upon my return), and then gaining everything I lost right back when I hit the buffet!

UPDATE!!!!!!!! So the exerts I mentioned that were ALLEGED are apparently not REAL! Miss Steffen's spokesperson had come out and denied that those quotes came from her book. The fact still remains that the book exists and she is kissing (and more) and telling again! I cant wait.

OK, so Karrine Steffens is back at it again and once again I am conflicted. Obviously, I think she is an opportunistic skeez that has no talent or skills other than laying on her back or blabbing about it. On the other hand, I could not wait to get my hands on her first tell all, and I rushed to my computer this morning to read the ALLEGED excerpts from her new book. What is wrong with me and the other millions of Americans that put her on the best seller list? What does this say to our children? You can be a successful writer if you sleep with enough famous people? The tell-all genre has been around for quite some time now and makes for a great read--but I must frown upon it as much as I love the gossip!

So OK, she says USHER IS GAY AND STINKS! Last book she basically calls out Diddy's sexuality, but wow! She runs down a list of everyone in the industry's length and girth! Too much Karrine! But I still read it! I can't believe some of the people she admits to hitting (i.e Trick Daddy, Twista, Missy Elliot).

That list, coupled with all the names from the last book, added to those supposed "actors" she wont reveal because she wants to still be able to work in that industry, equals over 50 or more men! Do you think she is honest? Do you think its cool to put people out there with families--wives and kids? How do you think her son will feel when he grows up? Is she an empowered female that doesn't fall into the constraints of society and wisely maximizes her situation? Is she just a slut? Do you think her scattered youth, sexual abuse, and poor parenting caused her to be this way? Are you going to read the book?

Rock of Love and other garbage

Does anyone watch Rock of Love? I think it is comedy! Obviously, its the Rock version of FOL and I was happy to see other races embarrassing, degrading, and playing themselves on national TV, although there was one black chick on the show that was definitely not the most positive representation of our people. The sista in question went by the moniker Dallas and on the first episode, one of the contestants hollered "What up Nigga!" to her several times which seemed to bother her but she just ignored it and kept it movin. Part of me wanted her to whoop that trick, but the other part of me was glad that she remained calm and collected. So cut to last night's episode, some PETA chick was furious with Dallas because she proudly ate and wore animals. Indeed, the PETA chick was obnoxious and was trying to start something, but Dallas went off on her in the limo screaming and totally lost her cool. Once back in the house, the PETA chick continued to harass and "touch" Dallas, and Dallas repeatedly tried to walk away (although she was pushing her back and at one time almost threw her into a counter). Did anyone notice that they played the same (where is security b/c I am about to F%& that bitch up) clip on episode 1 and 3? That's not reality TV!

Anyway, the funniest moment of the night was when Rodeo decides she is going to stop the harassment and she YOKES the PETA chick up like she is straight up po-po and restrains her with ease. (see above photo) Ultimately, the confrontation gets out, the PETA chick blames everything on Dallas, and Dallas gets the boot! Dallas is so furious the PETA chick is chosen over her, that she leaves without a hug or goodbye, to which Brett (the Poison front man they are vying for) calls her classless. Its RACIAL! lol j/k This show has no socially redeeming value and is definitely trash, but that's why I love it!

Moving on, WHY WHY WHY are the top selling male R&B artists men who don't sing? Akon, doesn't even need to open his mouth, because his vocals come solely through his nose. Even worse, is T-Pain who sings through a voice box. Both of these men have hits, but anyone can have a hit, should they have top selling albums? I wont even get on how I hate the whole "Konvict" music thing and that they are promoting being in jail (most in the hip hop generation do). I can't believe Akon's non-singing a$$ has biters: Sean Kingston! You can't tell me he was signed for his talent, or for any other reason than the fact that he sounds like Akon. Have you heard any of his Ja-Fake-can tracks?

Finally, have y'all seen Deelishisus'?? video? I am without words. I actually liked her on the show and thought she carried herself with dignity (as much as one could while tonguing down Flava Flav). She said she really liked him, had no future ambitions in the industry, and berated Krazy for wanting to be a singer. So after dissing him, promoting her modeling career and booty shaking in rapper's videos, what does she do? Puts out one of the most dirty, trashy, classless videos of the year. So You Think You Can Dance

Obviously, America doesn't know what it takes to be a professional dancer. I assure you it is not dancing on your head and faking the rest, or being able to waltz and fox trot and nothing more. As a dancer, I respect and appreciate the talent and "technique" needed to execute the above mentioned styles, yet the purpose of SYTYCD is to find the best all around dancer. To have a long lasting career in dance, one needs versatility and proper technique.

With that being said, why is Dominic still in the competition? Who voted for him? Is the large young, white, teeny-boper contingency voting for him in some convoluted attempt at being "down" with hip-hop? By performing the SAME damn solo as everyone else (which I actually loved by Wade), could the voting public not see how lacking in technique he was? And Pasha as well? Why am I getting so worked up when I already predicted all of the best dancers would slowly be voted off in lieu of some goofy tool who doesn't deserve to win (no offense Benji-you grew on me but Travis was still better)?

I'm glad that the judges (although I quite often disagree with them as well) were in control at the start so that the REAL talent got some exposure for their future careers. (Did anyone peep Blake from S1 on J-Lo's dancelife?) Does anyone watch any of these shows besides me?

How crazy is Mary Murphy? Mike said she and Paula need their own show--I agree. What was up with the whole Mia/marines coat emblem controversy? Who didn't expect there to be some backlash from "middle America" in regards to Wade's anti-war solo? How surprising was it that Nigel so eloquently responded with the logical rebuttal that "no one should support war--who wants people to die? that doesn't make one un-patriotic." ?

Moving to the subject of cheer leading (I'm sure I just lost whatever male readers I had at this point =P ), I coach a local Boys and Girl's Club cheer squad. Last year, I had very little support in trying to break them out of the cycle of what I call "hood" cheering. Am I wrong for that? The commissioner last year as well as this year's were supportive and encouraged me to teach them proper cheer technique (there goes that word again) and more than just "boom-chicka-boom" stuff. I was met with resistance from the kids, their parents and other coaches. I was told that the stunts I wanted them to do were too difficult and that I needed to make things simpler. I really began to doubt that I was doing the right thing and maybe the kids didn't need exposure to more than what they knew in that regard (it was supposed to be a fun pastime). However, when I saw the looks on their faces when they stuck their routine and won 1st place in a large cheer competition, I knew I was doing the right thing.

So this year, the commissioner wanted all of the age groups to be exposed to this type of cheer leading and brought in some college squad members from Catholic University to help coach. Once again, some coaches were resistant, and went as far as taking their girls out of the clinic and teaching them other things. Some parents complained that the new cheers were "too white" and encouraged the ebonics laden cheers. WHY? Why wouldn't you want your child to have the tools to make a competitive squad and possibly earn a college scholarship? Am I being blinded by my own lifestyle and opportunities and not seeing it from their perspective? Most parents and kids are on board, at this point though. I will just ignore those who are not.

A co-worker emailed me this story and I will reprint a summary of the article.

Last fall in Jena, Louisiana, the day after two Black high school students sat beneath the "white tree" on their campus, nooses were hung from the tree. When the superintendent dismissed the nooses as a "prank," more Black students sat under the tree in protest. The District Attorney then came to the school accompanied by the town's police and demanded that the students end their protest, telling them, "I can be your best friend or your worst enemy... I can take away your lives with a stroke of my pen."

The noose-hanging incident and the DA's visit to the school set the stage for everything that followed. Racial tension escalated over the next couple of months, and on November 30, the main academic building of Jena High School was burned down in an unsolved fire. Later the same weekend, a black student was beaten up by white students at a party. The next day, black students at a convenience store were threatened by a young white man with a shotgun. They
wrestled the gun from him and ran away. While no charges were filed against the white man, the students were arrested for the theft of the gun.

That Monday at school, a white student, who had been a vocal supporter of the students who hung the nooses, taunted the
black student who was beaten up at the off-campus party and allegedly called several black students "nigger." After lunch, he was knocked down, punched and kicked by black students. He was taken to the hospital but was released
and was well enough to go to a social event that evening.

Six Black Jena High students, Robert Bailey (17), Theo Shaw (17), Carwin Jones (18), Bryant Purvis (17), Mychal Bell (16)
and an unidentified minor, were expelled from school, arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder. Bail was set so high -- between $70,000 and $138,000 -- that the boys were left in prison for months as families went deep into debt to release them. The first trial ended last month, and Mychal Bell, who has been in prison since December, was convicted of aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery (both felonies) by an all-white jury in a trial where his public defender called no witnesses. During his trial, Mychal's parents were ordered not to speak to the media and the court prohibited protests from taking place near the courtroom or where the judge could see them. Mychal is scheduled to be sentenced on July 31st, and could go to jail for 22 years. Theo Shaw's trial is next. He will finally make bail this week.

In the midst of the Genarlo Wilson case (http://wilsonappeal.com/), and in the wake of the Don Imus and Michael Richard's orations, I ask myself how much progress has been made? In no way am I suggesting that the work of countless civil rights activists and supporters was in vain, but I feel the struggle is no where near over. Legally, we are in the same position as our forefathers subsequent to the abolition of Jim Crow. We are all created equal, right? We're supposed to be entitled to the same rights as anyone else, yet we all know how the justice system can be manipulated to meet a specific goal. The intentions of sanctions, the appellate process, and checks and balances are to ensure that said manipulation doesn't happen, but somehow, it always does. Why, money and power? Since there are more wealthy blacks now than ever, shouldn't we be able to sway things back to center? One OJ acquittal does not an even playing field make. Do we as a people have power? In the entertainment field maybe, marginally in the political arena. Some blacks with power don't see the need to right wrongs, or more importantly, that certain issues are wrong to begin with.

So I'll get to the point. Why is it that some blacks feel that we as a people "dwell" on the past and blame whites for our problems? Why are there other blacks that feel whites are to blame for our problems and that we are still getting the short end of the stick? Does the truth lie somewhere in the middle? (I tend to lean towards the latter.) Sure, we all know that dude that won't go get a job, who dropped out of school, who complains because he is poor. And we also know those stories of those who have pulled themselves up from poverty into the upper echelons of society. Why can't we all do that? Why is affirmative action needed? Why do our people need more help than ever today? Its so much deeper than any one answer.

I will say this, we are the only people to have had everything stolen from us. From our names, to our culture, to our identity, to our families. We didn't have a chance to flee our lands and go somewhere else to start a better life. Our life was transplanted, laid out and regimented for us just like animals. What affect could that have on a black man's psyche, to be beaten, sold and to watch his wife and children raped? How would his children or their children or their children handle the situation? Yeah things are better, but how can you forget (even if it did happen to your great, great great...)? Furthermore, how can you ignore what is still happening today? If whites can casually call us nigger (not is the you're my dog kinda way), nappy headed hoes and Compton crack whores (Paris' rant was by far the most comedic), what do they think of us and what are they planning beyond closed doors?

What do they think of our democratic nominee?

I don't think all or even most whites are flat out racists. I believe many are and most may have some "tendencies" due to their upbringing and conditioning (a master's grandkids have to have some type of entitlement attitude right?)

I will stop typing now. Am I uber sensitive or on point in any way?

As much time as I spend on the net, I decided it was time that I too join the wonderful world of blogging. I hope you enjoy, but I will be forthcoming with the fact that I don't have much to say. I will, I'm sure, come up with something.

I'm currently at work, not working, and thinking about So You Think You Can Dance and why Neil (who is by far the most awesome) wont win. Its the same reason why Blake (who was by far the most awesome) didn't win last year. Why does America get it wrong every time? Why did the judges vote off Ricky and Jimmy as if to say PLEASE lets have a girl win this time? Why did Nigel think it was OK to say anything about Slauson and Chrenshaw? Who am I to judge? Nobody--but I still will add my two cents and then some.

So this weekend, some friends and I went to a Reggae Wine Festival. It was very fun and we partook in the festivities wholeheartedly. We sampled all there was to sample and danced our hearts out (for like 7 minutes/its hot out here). We also had a hilarious game of Scrabble (JIVER is a word) where I won, not that I am one to brag. What surprised me about the event was how few black people were there. Do we not like wine? Do we not like Reggae? Where were my people? We admittedly had a great time with our Caucasian and foreign brethren, but where my Ninjas at?

Did anyone see the preview of LoriAnn's, the Making the Band 2, 3, and 4 choreographer, new show on MTV? Making the Record? Are they serious? It is produced by Bad Boy Films. How is this possible if LoriAnn is attempting to sue Diddy and M Bivons for assault, battery, etc? Why did the episode last night not show us anything? Why was LoriAnn still talking ish as she walked out the door, if she was just held against her will and threatened with a chair moments earlier? IS THIS ALL JUST PUBLICITY TO PROMOTE HER UPCOMING SERIES?

So, some may think Who cares? Some people have sooo many other problems to be dealing with. I don't, my living is easy, for now.

Introducing Summer!

So here is some ABOUT ME stuff that isn't in the about me section:

I am in a wonderful relationship with my best friend and number one supporter, Mike Black.

I have a beautiful, caring,and sickeningly perfect family (excluding myself of course). My mother and father will soon celebrate their 30th year of marriage and couldn't be more in love. My brother and his wife have two of the cutest children ever created. I have a wonderful grandmother and a team of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and neighbors to round out the bunch.
